Accoya windows and doors in a delightful cottage

As you might be aware, summer is literally just around the metaphorical corner. The arrival of summer does not just bring increased temperatures, blue skies and the potential for less rain (or at least hopefully), the season can also have a big impact on the wood used for your home at large. The hotter weather and potentially extreme temperatures can gradually wear your wood over time. If left unchecked, this can have drastic consequences.

The rise in temperatures will be all the more problematic if you happen to have a wooden door or windows.

Luckily, we have just the solution for you. At Brinard Joinery, we stock fabulous Accoya windows and doors. Accoya timber champions any other wood type but this notice rings especially true during the summer period.

What Actually Happens to Wood In The Summer?

As you might already know; during the winter, your wood can be put through the metaphorical ringer and this is not too dissimilar for the summer period. Whereas wood typically shrinks when wet and cold; during summer temperatures wood has the unfortunate distinction of both expanding and shrinking if not looked after properly.

Depending on the humidity levels and the moisture in the air, your wood will shrink or expand. This leads to wood warping which, in turn, causes many problems going forward. As you might have guessed, you will want to do everything in your power to combat, mitigate or stop this from happening entirely.

Heat and humidity won’t just affect the wood; it can also affect any coating you have put on it. Many of our customers opt to garnish their wood with a fresh coat of stylish paint. But during the summer, the integrity of the paint can be called into question.

Particularly during humid periods, your wood will absorb moisture leading to adhesion to the paint on the surface. While this is not an immediate process, over time the paint will begin to peel and/or bubble. Thicker coatings do take longer to oxidise and wear down but this will eventually happen over a longer period of time.

Dimensionally Stable

Accoya wooden windows and doors luckily combat directly against most of the aforementioned problems. Largely due to the undeniable strength and quality of the product, the wood is not needed to be special treated and largely remains unfazed even during the more extreme conditions.

The dimensional stability of Accoya products is unparalleled. Compared to hardwood and softwood; the Accoya timber does not warp, shrink or have problems with paint coatings. Even during hot and humid periods.

Incredible Durability

Because Accoya wood does not deteriorate in extreme conditions; the material is incredibly durable. We have already touched on how durable Accoya wood actually is. The material lasts around 90 years which is significantly longer than other material typically used for timber windows and doors. In fact, it lasts drastically longer than PVC, hardwood and softwood.

Environmentally Friendly

The metaphorical icing on the cake is the fact that Accoya doors and windows are also extremely environmentally friendly. Especially in the summertime, there is usually a push to be more environmentally aware. This is usually highlighted by the fact that we see such extreme temperatures during the summer due to global warming.

Accoya timber is non-toxic and 100% recycled making it the clear favourite as far as environmental wood choices go. Accoya windows and doors are also naturally insulated meaning it will help you save money on energy bills and will drastically help the environment in the long run.
