Accoya windows on a wood beach home

As we progress through April, you might have started your spring cleaning. However, one such element of your home you might have accidentally neglected is wooden windows. As a quality purveyor of timber windows in Derby, we have seen countless occurrences of timber windows where regular maintenance has been forgotten and as a result of this, the windows look and feel as though they have seen better days.

Some of our most popular products are from our fantastic Accoya range. This range includes the world famous Accoya doors and windows. Because of their unmistakable popularity, we would like to shine a spotlight on the extremely durable Accoya windows

As we have already mentioned, Accoya windows are extremely durable and are of exceptional high-quality. While their quality seems all but a given, ensuring they always look their best requires a carefully put together maintenance strategy.

So, let’s look at ways to maintain your Accoya windows.

Don’t Neglect The Glass

When devising your Accoya window maintenance strategy, many owners will primarily focus on the stylish Accoya timber and subsequently forget about the glass part of the window. As such, you will want to clean the glass of your windows carefully, thoroughly and at regular intervals.

The most effective way to clean them is via range of different cleaning methods and products. There are actually many home based methods which include creating a homemade solution, this is created by mixing one part vinegar and one part warm water.

However, one of the most effective ways is through purchasing established cleaning products and utensils. Most of these items can be purchased at local shops or supermarkets in the UK.

You might want to start with a microfibre cloth or a window sponge. Out of the two, you will want to prioritise the microfibre cloth. This is because microfibre cloths are absorbent, allowing for excellent reusable qualities. Accompanying this is also the fact that they don’t leave scratches on your window.

Once you have the cleaning utensils at the ready, you will then need to identify your cleaning solution. As previously mentioned, you could have a homemade concoction of vinegar and water. But if you want a more reaffirmed approach, you can buy a ready-made cleaning solution from a shop.

Once you are ready, you will simply spray the cleaning solution on the window and use the sponge or cloth to wipe it off ensuring there are no streaks or lines left.

Polishing The Wood

Now the glass is taken care of, you can focus on the all-important wood. Polishing or cleaning the wood might seem simple at first glance, however, it can go wrong very quickly. To begin with, you will want to use washing-up liquid to remove any hard-to-remove dirt, you can use a light bristle brush to help you do this. The main priority during this process is to not overdo it, after all, you should always check the manufacturer’s guidelines before undertaking such a task.

Once all access dirt is cleaned away, you can look to polish the wood to give it the shine you desire. Depending on the type of wood you have (for example, Accoya timber requires little to no polish) will depend on the level of polish you require and how much you need to apply.
